The Shenango Valley Animal Control and Shelter located at 2599 Broadway Avenue, Hermitage Pa. serves the municipalities of Sharon, Hermitage, Farrell, Sharpsville, Shenango Twp. West Middlesex and Wheatland. The SV Animal Shelter also works very closely with the Department of Agricultures State Dog Warden and their regional program of dealing with dog issues. The Shelter operates 5 days per week and staff are available for specified emergency animal rescue and pick up services in conjunction with the local police departments and the state dog warden seven days per week as required. The Shelter is managed and operated by the Mercer County Regional Council of Governments located at 2495 Highland Road, Hermitage, Pa. The SV Animal Shelter is also a registered Pa. kennel. The Shelter makes every effort to find homes for all of its deemed adoptable dogs and cats housed at its facility. Every effort financially possible and humanely possible is made to treat these animals with the best of care. Generous donations of food and other supplies are made from various interest groups that help make these efforts possible in addition to the supporting annual financial support of the participating governments involved. Fees for non member communities are charged for various types of care and service for animals brought to the shelter by non member residents and communities.
